October 16, 2017

The meeting was called to order by President Ed Krojansky at 1:40 PM.

Present were board members Michael Diner, Blane Goldwater, John Lanza, Steve Skinner, Ed Krojansky, Jan Bernard, Taira Kato, Irv Cherno, and Dean Abston.

John Lanza reported on the MGA that we split our last match with Rancho Park.  He also wanted to know if we want to play MGA next year.  We’re not very competitive and only 12 players play at the most.  One thought was to drop out of the MGA and have another tournament to replace the MGA that everyone could play in.  We will bring this up next meeting to discuss more.  He also mentioned that we need a replacement for Ray Stuckert to run the league play.

Jan Bernard wanted all members to make sure that they posted all scores that are not posted by the club.  It’s very important that you post scores in our match play events and allow for extra strokes that your opponent gives you.  Example you’re 20 feet from the hole laying  4 and your opponent  sinks his putt for a 4  do you take a 5 or a 6.  90% of the time it will take you at least 2 putts so put down a 6.  You’re only hurting yourself if you don’t.

A motion was made and passed to amend our constitution to make all board members attend a minimum of 6 board meeting per year.  If they do not they might be subject to actions by the board.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:15.

May 15, 2017

The meeting was called to order at 1:45 by President Ed Krojansky.

Present were board members, Michael Diner, Mike Cornner, Marvin Brown, Larry Tash, Ed Krojansky, Art Schonfeld, Taira Kato, Jan Bernard, John Lanza and Tournament Director Ron Abramson.

Marvin Brown reported that all bills are paid and we have a balance of $9600.00, which is about $1200.00 per year since the club started.  He figured that the club makes about $100.00 per tournament to get to this figure. He talked about the two day tournament.  He mentioned an idea of having our 2 day away tournament closer so if players didn’t want to spend the money to stay over they could just commute.  If players wanted to stay over they could do that as well.  The thought was to get more players as this is our least popular tournament as far as getting players. The board asked for 2 specific proposals one where you stay over and one which you could commute for the next board meeting to vote on. He also talked about maybe supplementing a tournament with some of the surplus money.

An amendment to the minutes of last month was added to address Steven Greenbaum suggestion of a barbecue to attract new members.  The board decided that the surplus should be spent on existing members that helped accumulate the surplus rather than spend it trying to get new members.

Ron Abramson reported on our next tournament which is the 5 club tournament set for Wednesday May 24, so far we have 30 players signed up.  After the 5 club we have the Abramson tournament named for our tournament director, set for June 5th on Encino 2 man scramble.

Larry Tash reported that we won our last MGA match against Rancho Park and our next match is this Thursday against the Sepulveda Men’s Club on Encino.

Taira Kato reported that the President’s cup is moving along and should finish on time.

Jan Bernard reported on our last away tournament at Los Robles. We had 51 players.  The scores were higher than normal because of the tricky greens.  He mentioned that the pace of play was slow and suggested that we find easier courses for our away tournaments. Our next away tournament is June 26 at Elkins Ranch.

The board talked about conduct during our tournaments.  It was brought up to the board that a player broke a club during our last away tournament by getting pissed off at himself. That kind of behavior is not acceptable and we are looking into it.

The meeting adjourned at 2:45.
Respectfully submitted.

Board meeting April 21, 2014

The meeting was called to order at 1:30 p.m. by President Mike Cornner.

Present were board members, Dean Abston, Irv Cherno, Mike Cornner, Michael Diner, Ed Krojansky, John Lanza, Ken Oberg, Ray Stuckert, Pete Heller, Larry Tash and Tournament Director Ron Abramson.

The minutes from the March meeting were approved.

President Mike Cornner reported for Marv Brown that all bills are paid and our balance is over $8,000.00. Marv also stated that if a committee was started to look into 3 flights for our tournaments he would be happy to serve on it.

John Lanza reported that we lost our last MGA match and we were no longer undefeated.  We are now in second place.

Dean Abston reported that we have 116 members including 2 new members.

Ed Krojansky reported that we are in the 3rd round of the Presidents Cup and should finish on time - by the end of July.

Ron Abramson reported that our last tournament we had 69 players - almost a full field - and as of today we have 69 players signed up for our next tournament on May 5, on Encino.  He also mentioned that we should all check our own score card to make sure we have the right score for the right holes.  We have had a few mistakes lately on skins because the score was listed on the wrong hole - the scores were correct but the holes were incorrect.  Please check your own card hole-by-hole right after the round.  Once a score is posted it stands.

Irv Cherno reported GAC is studying all suggestions and a meeting is set for next week to see if any will be instated.  The new blue flags have been ordered so look for them soon.

A motion was made by John Lanza to help speed up slow play: we should have less than 20 minutes after we finish our round to hand in the score cards.  Pete Heller will write the time on the score card when it is handed in so we can see if the 20 minute rule works.  Please have someone from your group hand in the score cards right after you all check them before going to your car to put your clubs away.  We also decided that we will play ready golf in all tournaments except for match play to help speed up play.

The event starts March 17 at Encino.

We talked about the posting computer in the restaurant. It seems that there is a problem with the Sepulveda Men’s Club and the restaurant, so we might need to find a new place to put the posting computer.

Ken Oberg reported on the 2 day-away tournament on November 5 and 6. The Board voted to have it at Black Lakes golf course in Nipomo, Ca. He also talked about a Santa Anita golf and track day in the clubhouse with a buffet or dinner.  We will need a minimum of 15 players. A decision has not been made.

That would be nice.

Don Prado reported that Larry Tash will start SCGA training and will replace him as the new Handicap Director.  Thanks Larry!

We talked about playing ready golf in all tournaments to help speed up play, including match play, but havent decided yet what to do with the match play .We will talk about it at the next meeting.  We also talked about paying past president dues and will also continue that discussion at the next meeting as well.

He looked into Avila beach, Morro Bay and Dairy Creek.  He will also check out Black Lakes and Cypress Ridge before we make a decision. He also mentioned a day at the races at Santa Anita and golf at Brookside for a small group of about15.

Dean Abston reported we have 118 members .

Marvin Brown reported that we have a $10,683 balance (as of today) before paying some bills.

He also reported on being the marshal for the January tournament.  It seems the first few groups were on time then, as usual, everything slowed down. The third hole on Encino (a par 3) played slow and that’s where everything slowed down. He also talked about the “240 Golf” program, an approach to improve pace of play.  Mike Cornner is looking into it.

Irv Cherno reported the City is going to put in a new sign at our courses that will have some digital advertising.

Mike Cornner purchased (at his own expense) 4 tape measures to measure the closest-to-the- pins on our par 3’s during our tournaments.

We also talked about Cindi Rohn playing from the white tees so she can play in the skins games.

Blane Goldwater suggested having 3 flights in our tournaments so more players can be in the money.

Don Prado is still looking for someone to replace him as the handicap director.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:30.

Respectfully submitted.
