President’s Cup article by LMGC volunteer Ken Klein

“Shoot the works” ends the 2018 season with the top 32 players eligible to play in the 2019 President’s Cup. The USGA recognizes the importance of this match play tournament and with full handicaps all players have a good chance to win. Typically a few of the 32 players decline and the “next man up” is added. 2018 champion Jack Deveny was 37th on the money list and made the most of his chance when 5 guys opted out.

With the extra December payouts, players can vault into the field. Last year Ray Bowling (who finished 3rd) jumped from 41st to 11th with his strong December showing. Mike Case moved up 26 spots to get into the field. Ten players made it after a good round at “Shoot the Works”, meaning 10 others slipped out of the field. Stats from past years have shown players leaping up the money list with a strong finish. One final CTP or skin could be the difference

Play well and enjoy the rest of the holidays,

--Ken

Craig Tagler Wins 2018 Putting Championship!
The annual LMGC Putting Championship was held on Wednesday, September 19.  Club members qualified by making the top 10 for putts in the July and August regular tournaments.  17 qualifiers checked into the event which was an “Aces Only” 9 hole shotgun.  On a fairly challenging, newly punched, practice green, six golfers ended with 3 aces, but Ray ‘one Eyed’ Bowling and Craig ‘Wildcat’ Tagler entered the playoff with 4 aces.  As the rest of the field watched intently from their vantage point on the patio (there were also some beverages involved), the playoff teetered back and forth with a few lip-outs and close calls.  Finally, The Wildcat closed out the championship by draining a 12 footer on hole number 5.   Congratulations to the Wildcat who spent most of his winnings on loose women and alcohol.  The rest he gave to his wife!

 Thanks to all who participated!

 Mark “Petty Cash” Fronke

Vice President
